Hopi Ear Candling

Hopi Ear Candling is a gentle relaxing, non-invasive soothing treatment which can calm the mind to combat stress and deeply relaxes all of your senses. When a Hopi Ear candle is burning, a light suction action is created, and the movement of the flame creates a vibration of air in the candle which generates a massage-like effect.  

Hopi Ear Candling is also known as Thermo Auricular Therapy. Ear candling has been used for thousand of years by many civilisations, Egyptian, Chinese, Aztec, Tibetan, Mayan and American Indian cultures. The practice was brought to the west by the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. (Hopi means “peaceful people”).

Some people may not be appropriate for Hopi Ear Candling and a consultation will be required before undertaking.

Hopi Ear Candling uses candles that are hollow tubes made from natural ingredients of organically grown flax, honey extracts, sage, st john’s wort and chamomile.

It is to be noted that scientific evidence notes that no benefits can be found from the use of Hopi Ear Candling, so Quest Holistic Therapies only uses Hopi Ear Candling as part of relaxation process.

You will be asked to lay on your side, and then an ear candle, made of cotton and imbued with natural remedial ingredients such as beeswax, honey and herbs, will be delicately placed inside your ear. Your therapist will ask you if everything is ok and you want to proceed!

The top of the candle (a foot or two above your head), will be carefully lit. This is where the magic begins!

Enter physics! Probably the last thing you want to think about during treatment, but here we go! The hot flame at the top of the candle draws air from your ear canal up to the flame, creating negative pressure in your ear. The crackles and instability of the flame itself (plasma) can vibrate through the ear and massage the eardrum itself; whilst being a very pleasant sensation.

The candle will burn for about 10 to 15 minutes and will be complemented with a massage of the outer ear.
