Emotional Freedom Technique involves tapping key acupressure points on the hands, face, and body with your fingertips while focusing on uncomfortable feelings or concerns, and using positive affirmations to neutralise those feelings.
The origin of emotional freedom technique goes back many 1000’s of years to acupuncture, acupressure and shiatsu.

The origin of emotional freedom technique goes back many 1000’s of years to acupuncture, acupressure and shiatsu.
In the 1980's Dr Roger Callaghan came up with a complicated algorithm of tapping points to help cure his client Mary from a water phobia. In the early 1990's, Gary Craig, an ordained minister and graduate of Stanford University, reduced the number of tapping points & found it to be just as effective.
Emotional freedom technique works by combining elements of traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, and neuroscience-linguistic programming (NLP) to address emotional and physical concerns.
EFT is based on the concept that our bodies have a system of energy meridians, similar ro those used in acupuncture. These meridians are believed to carry the flow of energy throughout the body.
Emotional freedom technique has been found to be effective in the following areas:
* Stress & Anxiety reduction
* Emotional Regulation
* Trauma & PTSD
* Pain Management
* Phobia & Fear Resolution
* Improved Self-esteem & Confidence
* Better Sleep
It is important to note that while many individuals have reported positive outcomes with EFT, the research on its effectiveness is still evolving.
The attached short video will show you what to expect at your first emotional freedom technique session.
There are no known contraindications to using emotional freedom technique, however, only qualified mental health professionals should apply EFT on those suffering from severe trauma.
No absolutely not!
Emotional freedom technique uses many techniques to gently work around difficult stories, whether they are a painful memory, or something that is embarrassing or shameful to tell. We can lead you through the process without the need for you to tell us anything at all just using tapping therapy is enough, although usually it is helpful for us to know a little bit about the concern.
It really depends!
A few people will get a very fast healing in one or two sessions depending on their need and the tapping therapy they undertake at home during the sessions.
However, many people will need about 6-10. For people who want to work long-term on their personal growth, the journey never ends.
We recommend that six sessions will show the most impact.
While emotional freedom technique (EFT) is a great self-help tool, and simple to learn, it’s also a powerful therapeutic intervention. If you are experiencing mild-to-moderate difficulties, you may well be able to use the tapping therapy on your own. However, we would not recommend using EFT as a self-help tool if you have a history of trauma or PTSD. Similarly, it may be better to work with a therapist if you are seeking help with a long-standing issue.
Emotional Freedom Technique sessions are held 1:1 at our treatment room in North Newbald or My Time Therapies in York (selected days/times only) or online. Being face to face is obviously the preferred choice but understand that this may not always be possible and it's important that as a client you feel comfortable so, the choice is yours!
